EAST END BEACHES
Montauk:
East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744): Scott says there is a big run of huge fish in Montauk as the parking lot is packed with fishermen and campers. The drive on beaches at Montauk are all closed, but the parking lots at the Lighthouse and Camp Hero are open. The action is all on the north side as the south side heave is just too big according to Willie Young of the MSA. He also said the bait must be snappers because white bait leaves the wash in rough white water. Bottle plugs and bucktails are the only way to go at present with the storm surge. Fish to 45 pounds and plenty of 25 to 45 pound fish is the word in Montauk as it was exceptional fishing on Thursday and again Friday morning. The beaches are beginning to get beat up with big surf. If the East End gets the 3 inches of rain predicted you can expect the south side of Montauk to be mud most of the weekend as rain and mud pour down the cliffs and ledges of the south side and it's beaches too!

SOUTH SHORE BEACHES
Shinnecock / Hampton Bays / Moriches:
East End Bait & Tackle (631-728-1744):
Scott says the beaches to the east and west of the inlet that were  beginning to show some signs of life have nothing to report, it's been a quiet week with boats being pulled in prep for the storm and rough surf no starting to pound the beaches. Thursday morning saw some decent bass fishing on the open beaches west of Shinnecock using bucktails for bass 26 to 36 inches. Sounded like decent numbers of fish around feeding before the storm comes. Depending on how much rain we get will determine is the weekend surf action is a wash out with mud for water. The higher than normal tides have already created tide pool swell above the top of the beach and that next tide will brown the water dragging al that sane with it. Friday (9/3) is when the wind turns on during the day.

South Shore
Fire Island Inlet:

Robert Moses Beaches to
Tobay:
When we spoke with Chip Gorman of LI State Parks at 11 a.m. on Friday (9/3) he said all drive on beaches in this area are closed with the exception of the Sore Thumb which remains open and expects to remain open. We heard the surf is huge, the water brown to black with the wash over from the beaches as the tide is way way up. Most of this will be unfishable anyway. Waters are also pushing over the berm of the beach and backwashing too. We would expect waters to brown up quickly and most of the south shore beaches are unfishable already. Looks like some of the beaches will be reshaped too, which is a pity because some of them were looking great! Who knows how severe the western South Shore beaches will get beat up on Friday. Jones & Deb's Inlets:
Jones Beach/ Point Lookout/Lido/Long Beach & Atlantic Beach:
Scotty's Fishing Station (516-432-4665): Tom reported as of Thursday (9/2) at noon water color was great and surf clean, but waves were already 6 to 8 foot with some 10 footers mixed and the surfers are extremely happy. Waters are also pushing over the berm of the beach and backwashing too. We would expect waters to brown up quickly and most of the south shore beaches are unfishable already. Looks like some of the beaches will be reshaped too, which is a pity because Long Beach and AB was looking great! Friday saw all beaches in this stretch closed to bathers and swimmers with surfers the only ones happy. Waters Friday were unfishable any way with the water color almost black, even the suds were dark brown with sand and this will take  a few days to clear up. Beaches structure will change too.... Rockaways/Breezy Point:
Tom reported big ground swells and surf the last few days but water color is GREAT, lots of sudsy water around jetties and lots of bait in the surf now too. Snappers, small spearing of some sort and lots of bait, troughs, bars and the beaches are set up great right now. Let's hope the passing storm this Friday does not change things up. A few short bass have been caught, keeper fluke and kingfish all through the stretch from Point Lookout to Atlantic Beach.
