Northern Jersey
OverviewFishing Line Message Boards:  The Raritan Bay holds a few more tricks up its sleeve as anglers chase bass, blues and fluke all over the bay. Bass is the number one fish for the week with many anglers either catching a ton of fluke or no fluke at all. It’s a case of the right place at the right time for most flattie anglers. Bluefish are in stock, but not as prevalent as they were during the last few weeks. Sea bass and porgies still occupy the larger reefs outside of the bay with good reports coming in from shops in this area.

Keyport Area: Fish inside the Raritan Bay this week with great reports of bass being caught on clams and bunker, but only at night. Small to medium sized bluefish are still lurking around the bay following the bunker pods. Use bunker heads just after the small storm we have brewing Friday night. Hit the Raritan Reach and Bug Light for decent fluke action early on in the season. Combo squid and killies is a good start if you’re fishing from a boat.

South Amboy Area: Lawrence Harbor and Sandy Hook have been very good to anglers this week. Fresh and whole live lined bunker is the best bait for the last few weeks in this area. Try fishing at the #11a can off of Keansburg with fresh bunker if you’re interested in bluefish. As for fluke the Triangle and Buoys # 52 and #53 are holding some junior doormats. Also try fishing around the South Amboy Lighthouse and Flynn’s Knoll using spearing and squid combos.

Atlantic Highlands Area:  Most local beaches are holding bass during the day and night shift. Try South Beach just off of the Atlantic Highlands if you’re in the market for big time bass. Clams and fresh bunker is still tops as far as baits go. Stretch 25’s, Stretch Imitators and rubber shad patterns are working off of Flynn’s Knoll right now. Further north near Sandy Hook has been good for bass on clams, but once you get in a boat you’re going to head over to the Outer Bridge by Staten Island for some monster bass action. Fluking just outside of the Navesink River is hot right now on killies and squid combos.

Shark River Area: Look to the rocky areas of the Shark River for decent bass fishing. Places like Deal and Elberon are still holding bass at night. Deep diving plugs and white bunker spoons are working nicely outside of the Shark River. South of the Shark River Inlet has been good as well, but the number of keepers is lower. Fluke picked up somewhat from last week with warmer water temps bringing them into the rivers and lagoons. The Klondike Banks are really hot with tons of sea bass up for grabs.

Central Jersey
Overview: A ton of action happening now off the center part of Jersey. Plenty of beach bass action along with a nice invasion of blowfish and kingfish in the southern half of the section. Bluefish are still in the area, but the school is either filled with small cocktails or larger gators. Fluke is hit or miss again. Some guys are getting lucky while others are just getting skunked. Look for those bird schools on the water to find the fish.

Manasquan and Point Pleasant Area: Fluke anglers are still catching keepers from places like the Manasquan Canal and inside the Manasquan River. Spearing, killies and squid strips are rounding out the baits of the week. Places like Sea Girt, Asbury and Point Pleasant are still holding bass and blues. Bunker schools are still surging around places like Asbury and Sea Girt. Shads and Imitation Kroc’s are working for the boat guys chasing bluefish inside the bay. Picking through bass with snagging bunker is doing great off of the surf. Bluefish are hitting mullet and tins also off of the surf. Most blues are almost to the 8-pound mark. Snagging bunker is also starting work as bait with bluefish terrorizing bunker pods just off of Point Pleasant. Check out the Sea Girt Reef and the Axel Carlson for really nice sea bass and fluke.

Toms River Area: From the Ortley Beach to Long Beach Island guys are crushing bass on snagged bunker from the surf. The Mouth of the Barnegat Inlet is also providing some great bass action on the dusk and dawn tides. If you heading to the surf load up on fresh clams and bunker chunks. Many anglers are using small poppers under the bridge near Pelican Island. Gilford Park has been holding 7 to 8-pound bluefish taken on trolled spoons. Berkeley Island Park has been seeing weakfish, kingfish and blowfish schools. One diver reported seeing a massive shoal of blowfish off of Berkeley Park earlier this week.

Seaside Park and IBSP: Action this week from the park indicates a better bite then last week. A slight northeast wind is blowing right now so the fishing will be better for this weekend. A small striper bite has been underway off of the Manasquan Inlet for the past day or so. Most guys are chunking bunker due to the big blues in the wash. Big bluefish blitzes were coming in from all around the surf zone this week with 8 to 10-pound fish on tap. Bunker pods were popping up all over the surf and bluefish pushed them into the Pocket at the tip of Island Beach State Park. Casino Pier in Seaside Heights had a monster blitz this part week all caught on swimming plugs. No fluke have been reported in the surf zone.

Waretown Area: Most shops are reporting a slower than usual bite for the tip of Island Beach State Park. Unfortunately the striper bite is off again with less bait in the water then last week. Oyster Creek Warm Water Run-Off is still one of the best places to find bluefish. Fluke anglers are doing quite well for the week with some guys reporting a small 3:1 throwback ratio for keepers. All of the action is limited to the Back Bays on small shrimp patterns.

Know where they are...not where they were...
