Fishing To Fight Cancer, Jimmy V Show
Part 1
:
This 2008/2009 season premiere lives up to the expectations of a season premier
all the way. It has action and more importantly...a message. A message of
hope and the mantra of “Don't Give Up, don't ever give up.” This was the
famous line spoken by the late Jimmy Valvano on ESPN at the awards dinner.
If you are sports fan, you know where you were when you first heard this. On
this show I speak with Jimmy's brother Nick, who is the
Exec. Director of the
Jimmy V Foundation and who also happens to be my high
school accounting teacher. Then we fish with Blaine Applegate of
Philadelphia and his friends the Ford family who came to NY to fish with
Rich Johnson after another so called pro could not fulfill his duties
towards a trip Blaine won in an auction at a
Jimmy V Foundation fundraiser in Philly.
We took Blaine and the Ford family to Orient Point to fish with Capt. Dave
Lawrence of the Celtic Horizon charter boat for hot October fall bass and
big bluefish action jigging in the Gut and the Race. This is a terrific show
to watch with the kids and family with vintage footage
provided by ESPN of this special night.
Proceeds from the sales go
directly to the Jimmy V
Foundation.

episode gives viewers four different ways to catch big stripers and all with
artificials. In this show we fish with several guests including trolling
plugs with wire line with NJ Star Ledger’s Capt. Al Ristori of NJ giving the
in’s and out’s of how, what, why and where to troll large plugs for trophy
stripers. We also fish with large plastics & rubber with Capt. Eric Matland
of MA with his charter service on the CT River for large river stripers.
Close up’s of how to rig large plastics if of course an integral part of
this show and yes we bring it to you in close up detailed and step by step
footage. We have a few other surprises for you in
this exciting and informative episode. We'll cover the
art of diamond jigging with Capt. Bob Wiegand and this is certainly an
important episode to add to your fishing library at home or office.

Trophy Tog with Hermit Crabs
: This episode we go looking for blackfish, not 14 inch keepers
mind you, but trophy blackfish in Long Island
Sound. We sailed with Capt. John Richey II on his
new charter boat out of the Nissiquogue River
on Long Island's north shore and hit the
Smithtown
Reef and points west. We had a bucket of hermit crabs and were specifically
looking for trophy blackfish over 10 pounds in late November
just days before Thanksgiving. We used single hook
rigs and fished 45 foot of water and found some
great beauties and came very close with several fish 8 to 9.5 pounds! Capt.
John gave us some great info on fishing LI Sound for tog and of course the
show would not be complete without a trip to his father’s store,
Terminal Tackle
in Kings Pak, Long Island. We cover all the in’s and out’s of togging the
fall season showed the tackle and rigs we used including the
hermit crabs and what you need to know for trophy LI
Sound Tog.

Slop Fishing for Largemouth Bass
:
In this episode we go looking for ol'
bucketmouth in the slop and weeds of a lake near Monticello, NY on the
Eldred preserve. My guest for this week's show is Rick Faulkner, a touring
bass pro on the circuit here in the northeast. We're using light spinning
tackle for this challenge with only 8 pound test or so and fishing the edges
and holes in the thick mats of weed that cover this and many lakes, just
like the one in your backyard. Using plastic baits rigged weightless and
weedless, we're able to pull some nice fish from this weed choked lake and
you'll be able to do the same thing following our lead with tips and
techniques galore in this fast paced episode.
Look for the Home Release Version of this show on DVD with added info,
interview and more catches of striped bass to be on sale soon and added to
out Library!

Sandworming LI Sound Stripers
:
In this episode we go looking for November stripers with one
of the best on Long Island,
Capt. James
Schneider of the
Capt. James
Joseph in Huntington, Long Island. We go looking for these linesiders
with striper candy…a.k.a sandworms and the fact bass love this bait is no
secret. In this show
Capt. Jim
gives us a ton of information on the best tidal stages to fish and this is
contradictory to anything you would imagine! Rigging, bait presentation,
hooking the sandworms, seasonal tips and tactics are all detailed both with
footage and as always with The Fishing Line you learn a ton just by
listening to the guests and the information they give us!

Show #7
Stripers On Live Herring
:
For
years I've been preaching not to put the boat away so early. There is some great action to
be had into January if you can take the cold and in reality, December is not usually that
cold. This show was filmed in a 15 degree wind chill.
We'd had a great 2 week period where we caught as many bass as we had live herring baits
and the weather was in the 50's. I got the crew together and that
previous night, a severe
cold front came through pushing winds from the northwest at 35 knots, plummeting the
temperatures by sunrise to 15 degree wind chills. We went ahead and filmed
the show catching lots of herring and then putting a dozen bass to 20 pounds in the boat
with double headers in NW winds of 15 to knots as we fished my home port of Jones Inlet.
As always we had detailed diagrams of the Fishing Rigs we used, how
to catch the bait (herring), how to rig the baits, where to find them in the rips
(diagrams) along with fishing techniques and of course we go over the hook choices and
some great boating and fishing tips. Watch

Moriches Winter Flounder in
Summer
:
This episode will actually open your eyes to some fantastic, possibly
the best winter flounder fishing in the NY Metro tri-state region and maybe
even the northeast! That’s right
winter flounder in short sleeved shirts, thus the show title. I fished with
Gary Grunseich of Silly
Lily Fishing Station in East Moriches Long Island. We fished the
incoming tide to wail away on the winter flatties with over 40 fish in a
three hour period with 95% all keeper flounder to 3 pounds! We were on fire as we limited
out in a few hours with fish from the first anchor drop till the end of the
tide and the end of our chum I have not had winter flounder fishing like
this since I was a kid! We fished just 10 to 15 minutes from
the dock at Silly Lily.
We cover the areas we fished, baits, tackle, the Snafu Rig, hook selections,
how to play and land large flounder and why use heavier tackle for these
flounder than we do in other areas of the NY Metro tri-state region. Our
Boating Tip of the Week is
of course included. We suggest pre-ordering your extended home release of
this show ahead of time...it is going to be a fast seller for sure!
The full episode
will be up soon.

Show #9
New Jersey Reef Blackfish
:
We took a trip out of
Sheepshead Bay, NY to hit the Sandy Hook Reef system of NJ with my guest
& long time friend Capt. Henry Feeney. We shot the show in
late November where water temp's were the same as they in
the spring off the Sandy Hook Reef. This
reef is a short ride from Rockaway Inlet and Sheepshead Bay and just minutes outside Sandy
Hook and the Atlantic Highlands. We had quite a few requests for some Jersey based shows
and we are bringing them to you this season. However, that does not mean we forgot about
Long Island and Connecticut anglers. The tips,
Fishing Rigs, diagrams,
and info on how to catch big blackfish can be used anywhere in the tri-state area! In this
show we dshow different anchors for different situations along with new computer generated
animation for anchoring techniques and of course we go over the hook choices, bait
choices, fishing techniques and some great boating and fishing tips for you.
We also gave you a travelogue of the Sandy Hook and Shark River reefs, GPS & LORAN
numbers for both, info on a booklet you can get for the entire New Jersey Reef system and
as usual exciting action in this 30 minute show.

Show #10
Late Fall Gummy Stripers
: This trip in
late fall was done with one purpose in mind, to catch fish....on light tackle, not how big
or how many...just to bend the rod and feel the line come tight one last time before the
2003 season ended earlier than usual due to winds and weather. We instruct on how to catch
good numbers of stripers during the migration using lead heads and swim
baits...a.k.a...rubber shads. The shad of choice for The Fishing Line has always been the
Gummy Shad by FJ Neil Co., a Long Island based tackle manufacturer. My guest is Bob Lowe,
operations manager for FJ Neil and we catch plenty of fish in very sloppy conditions. The
key though is the extensive segment on shad baits, how to rig them, choosing the right
one, what the difference between brands is, what other "baits" you should
include in your fall arsenal and we speak about boat control and the stupidity we see on
the water from careless anglers. We cover the tackle requirements for this sort of fishing
action as always give a well rounded informative
show with plenty of action.
The full
episode will be up soon

Show #11
Fluke Fishing Tactics
:
This episode is a
review of several techniques for catching fluke in the bay and ocean through
the heat of summer into September. We start with some East End tactics with
large bluefish fillets, stripped and jigged hard off the bottom for large
fluke. We give you a quick how-to on filleting
bluefish, cutting them into strips, the rigging we use and of course some great fishing
action. Next we hit the shallow water of the back bays in the heat of July as we show
folks some impressive fluke and the sharpies
who work these back bay shallows and channel edges for big
fluke...some over 10 pounds. My guest is Artie Hoerning and we work
with
1/2 & 1/4-ounce bucktails and small spearing on very light spinning tackle. We give
back trolling techniques, taking "ranges"
of where you are so you don't need LORAN or fish finders and by using Mother Nature's
signals...keep yourself on the fish for success with keeper fluke. Tackle Segment,
a special segment on Bucktail Basics and much more! Next we get into the
late summer and early September when BIG fluke want snappers to inhale. I fished live
snappers and in two short 4 hour trips in late August, showing folks how we tied our
special Daiichi DeathTrap treble hook rig, placing snappers on the hook, drift speed
secrets, where to find fluke in the late summer using your LORAN to help control the speed
of the drift. One of the the better shows we put together over the years and rolled into
this one as well.one I hope you will all enjoy.

Show #12
Twitching Smallies
:
In this episode we're fishing with
touring bass pro Rick Faulkner of NJ as we hit the lakes of Sullivan County
in lower NY State. We're twitching soft plastic baits like Yum Houdini
shads, which are more like assassins and not really shad bodied baits. We're
weightless and weedless as we work the rocky shorelines and boulders of this
region's lakes. We're using light spinning
tackle for this challenge with only 8 pound test and finding some good
action on smallmouths, along with a few largemouth and a pickerel or two. We
show you the proper technique for "twitching" and how to choose & rig the
right colored baits in our interviews with Rick.
Look for the Home Release Version of this show on DVD with added info,
interview and more catches of striped bass to be on sale soon and added to
out Library!
